Where it all began
With high profile visitors including Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Orson Welles and Douglas Fairbanks during the 1950s, the area quickly cemented its reputation as a glamorous holiday destination. Thanks to its amazing landscapes - and cheap crew costs - several major films were shot here during this time. These include Suddenly Last Summer, Chase a Crooked Shadow and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, starring James Mason and Ava Gardner, shot mainly in and around Tossa de Mar. Ava Gardner sadly passed away in 1990, however you can still pay your respects to this goddess of the silver screen at the stunning statue of her to be found in Tossas old town, erected in honour of her stay.
