The Cultural Memory In Susan Schmidts Art At Agora Gallery [print this page] Inspired by the iconic Australian Beach House, Susan Schmidts latest series of mixed media paintings, which she calls Seaburbia, explores the cultural memory of the abandoned beachfront homes of the east coast of Australia. Using acrylic and oil layered and glazed with bits of sand, eggshell and shaved pastel, the works achieve a weather-worn texture recalling the erosion of matter over time and the exquisite residues of nostalgia and decay.
Susan Schmidt was born in South Australia. She has a background in Advertising and Graphic Design and has shown her work professionally throughout Australia.

In The Kaleidoscope of Color the audience will be plunged into a fascinating world of powerful imagery and lively energy that combines broad scope with intricate detail. The exhibitions will begin on August 24, 2012 and the opening reception will take place on Thursday, August 30, 2012, 6-8pm. The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition will end on September 12, 2012 and The Kaleidoscope of the Mind will end on September 13, 2012.
