subject: Understanding Your Website Traffic [print this page]

Lots of website administrators would love to find a great way to add additional visitors to their sites. However, they really are not positive about how to go about helping their potential customers learn about their sites. The good news is that there are some simple ways to incorporate SEO that many companies have successfully used to bring in more traffic.

Most SEO revolves around building website traffic through enhanced search engine visibility. What this means is that when someone searches for something through a search engine (Google, for example), the highest rated companies are generally at the top of the results. As as general rule of thumb, most people will choose one of the top results, never looking beyond the first couple of page results.

That poses a problem for most site owners. How do they raise their visibility and standings in the search engines? One way is by making sure that there are many links that point back to your website. That can be accomplished by posting up various articles based on the subject of your site. However, there are downsides to that, such as ranking penalties if done incorrectly.

An excellent way to bring more people to your site is by making your site a place where visitors can find what they need. Through word of mouth (organic links), your traffic will increase. Having outstanding articles and content on your site will tell the search engines that your site is relevant and help increase your search engine visibility. Modern Internet users are more educated than they used to be and know many of the tactics of webmasters trying to game the system. As a result, they generally will stay with the websites that give them value.

No matter the subject or type of site you own, getting more visitors is critical. You will, however, want to make sure that when those visitors reach your site, that they can easily find what they need with an minimum of hassle. Having good website design with simple navigation along with targeted content will help make sure that your site expands.

Obtaining traffic is one thing, gaining repeat traffic is another. Maintaining a well-designed, easy to read website is a great first step. The rest resides on reputation, treating visitors and paying customers appropriately. No one wants to deal with inadequate communication or service from any website, regardless of what the website is centered around.
