subject: Getting Back Into Shape [print this page]

I recently had a birthday and finally left my 20's and entered my 30's. On the day of my birthday I decided to go on a hike that I used to love to do when I was younger and only made it half way. No I didn't get injured or anything like that. What happened was that I was gassed. My legs were wobbly and I had a hard time catching my breath. This hike was only a mile long and I used to run it when I was younger and now I couldn't even finish it when I was walking. As I sat on the side on a bench I would see little kids walking past me and they did not look tired on bit. After this embarrassing incident I decided it was time for me to get back into shape. If you are me and need to get back into shape, here are some things that you can try out.

One of the first things I did when I decided I was going to get back into shape was buying a bicycle. I went down to my local sports store and I bought a mountain bike plus a helmet. BTW a little off topic but make sure you buy a helmet and other protective gear if you decide to ride a bike. A couple years ago my friend was riding his bike and got hit by a truck mirror and got severely injured. With my new bike I have started riding it around my neighborhood at night and once a week I also use it to get to work. Riding a bike is a great way to get back into shape while also having fun doing so. Another thing that you can do to try to get back into shape is walking. This can be easily done by again walking around your neighborhood while walking your dog or just going for a leisurely stroll. Again this is a great way to build up your stamina and also for building muscle in your legs. A third thing that you can try to do to get back into shape is joining a gym. This does cost some money to do but doing so you'll have access to a lot of gym equipment and could also take classes like yoga to help build up muscle strength. As soon as I joined a gym near me what I started doing was some light weight training and also used the treadmill quite a bit.

Getting older doesn't mean that you no longer have to be in shape. Thinking about the days when I was younger and I was able to play basketball all day without really getting tired, I admit I miss that. Hopefully with me getting back into shape I can at least finish one game now.
