Festival of Villarrica traditionally starts from coronation of the Queen of carnival and of the King Momo. If Encarnacion has a reputation of the capital of carnival, Villarricca is known as Republica of carnival. Main events of this carnival are competitions and parades.
At the same moment Caacupe unofficial spiritual capital of Paraguay is well known for its gigantic dolls. Dancers entertain the public performing on them. The carnival in Caacupe is quite popular among tourists due to the fact of being very close to Acuncion.
Another interesting festival Arete Guazu is held at the same moment as others carnivals in Maria Auxiliadora. Its distinguished from traditional carnivals by great influence of Guarani Indians. Festival is dedicated to Aguero and during the celebration they thank him for good harvest and prosperity. The celebration is characterized by drinking of great amount of chichi.
