From Acting to Rapping
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1986 as Aubrey Drake Graham, the young man was destined to be a big name in the music industry. With a father who played drums for Jerry Lee Lewis, Drake always knew that he wanted to be in entertainment. His acting career actually started while attending Forest Hill Collegiate Institute but spent a lot of time in Memphis, TN. It didn't take long for Drake to be picked up for a nationally televised show in Canada - a show that can also be seen in other countries as well. Starring in Degrassi: The Next Generation starting in 2001, Drake began a long, fruitful acting career on the show until his departure from the show in 2009.
Throughout his time on Degrassi, Drake continued to focus on music. Room for Improvement, his first mixtape, was recorded and released in 2006. Comeback Season, his second mixtape, was released the final year and both albums were available on his MySpace page at the time. "Replacement Girl," a single from his mixtape, was made into a video and broadcasted on BET - Drake was still unsigned at the time, making him the first Canadian rapper to accomplish that feat. In 2008, Lil' Wayne, after hearing tracks from his mixtapes, asked Drake to go to Houston and tour with him. Drake was unsigned still, though he was officially a part of Young Money.
But then Drake released So Far Gone, his third mixtape, that featured artists Trey Songz, Lloyd, Omarion, and Bun B. The mixtape did so well that it was called "The Hottest Mixtape of 2009" by MTV and featured popular singles "Successful" and "Best I Ever Had." Drake was actually successful before he was ever signed. Finally, Drake signed to Young Money Entertainment in 2009 and since then, has had even more success being backed by a big record label.
Singles from Take Care have placed really well on the Billboard charts and Drake's voice can be heard on the radio on various songs. This concert showcases how talented Drake is.
