Forming Dave Matthews Band
In 1990, Dave Matthews was working at Miller's Bar in Charlottesville, VA as a bartender. He had been writing numerous songs, but he was very reserved and did not like to perform in front of people. But that was before he met Ross Hoffman, an attorney. He encouraged Dave Matthews to lay down some tracks of the songs he had written and then shop it around to try and find some people interested in playing in a band with him. Soon enough, Matthews was able to get two people to rehearse with him: LeRoi Moore and Carter Beauford. Although their first rehearsal did not go so well, they decided to continue giving it a try. The band at the time agreed that they needed to recruit more members because the songs they wanted to play simply needed more instruments.
The band found more members and continued to add more as they rehearsed. Eventually in 1991, the yet unnamed band recorded their first demo. They had a number of shows afterward but had yet to find a name for the band. They performed "Tripping Blues", "Recently", and "The Song that Jane Likes", among others, that were all part of their demo. It wasn't until 1993 under the Bama Rags label that Dave Matthews Band not only had a name, but their first studio album, Remember Two Things. RCA would later re-release the album in 1997.
Success
After the release of Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash, Dave Matthews Band became a national success and even garnered a Grammy award. The late 1990s became a particularly successful period for the band as they continued to release great singles that really resonated with music lovers. With Dave Matthews' acting career, his solo album, and the release of their new album, the band is experiencing increased attention and popularity.
