subject: Motorola Milestone Review - The Android Powerhouse by:Jerry Smith [print this page]

Motorola Milestone is the latest android mobile phone from Motorola available in the European market. It is by far one of the best android mobile phones that take full advantage of the open source operating system. The CDMA version of Milestone is a big hit in USA, and Milestone is also long-awaited to acctract the European market.

The build quality of Milestone is far better than other kinds of android mobiles available in the market. Milestone looks different from other android mobiles, for others clearly shows their plastic, while Milestone does not. Considering the existing QWERTY keyboard, the thickness of this phone can be well appreciated.

The 3.7 inches display has a responsive capacitive touch screen which makes you fell comfortable when you navigate through the phone interface. There is a D pad and select key included below the large screen along the side touch sensitive buttons. The QWERTY keyboard is revealed when you slide open the Milestone. The design inhibits users from using both hands freely to type using the keyboard. The lip of the phone gets into the way of typing even though keys are placed well enough.

Among the Android mobile phones, it can be said that the Milestone has a fairly decent camera with a fresh interface. Additional features like digital zoom, shooting modes, focus modes, and color effects are welcome additions. The 5MP camera comes with a dual LED flash that helps capturing clear pictures. The high quality video capturing feature captures DVD quality videos. The music player is very simple and there are no unique features worth a special mention. The external speaker is very loud and there are headsets available too

The Milestone takes advantage of the latest version Android 2.0 and the interface is simply rocking. Google navigation is not available for UK customers even with the MotoNav. The interface has three home screens and the icons are redesigned to give a unique and new feel to the Milestone. You will find a number of widgets available with the Milestone including YouTube. A power bar is a pretty useful widget that lets you toggle between applications. Google search is the default search engine for Milestone and you can use the Google voice search too.

Synchronizing the contact list with Microsoft exchange is a great advantage because applications to synchronize social networking websites may hit the market soon. Quick contacts are a new addition to this phone which helps you decide the way you interact with a contact. Geo tagging of contacts is now available with the Milestone. And threaded message viewing allows you check things you typed earlier. Type to compose works with the Milestone phone. The onscreen keyboard is very much impressive. Gmail and Exchange are two types of emailing options available with Motorola Milestone. You can easily convert SMS into MMS and enclose attachments with emails too.

It is quite easy to browse internet with the web browser. The quad brand GSM with dual band 3G support is very useful for wireless internet connectivity. And the pinch and zoom facility is wonderful for zooming in and out. But there is no onboard flash support so that you can't view websites with flash content, which is a little disappointing.

Milestone has an internal memory of 133MB and it can be extended to up to 32GB. The standard Li-ion mAh battery supports 350 hours of stand by time and 6 hours 30 minutes of talk time. After the introduction of Milestone in UK, many people have shown great interest in buying this phone, but it has to be admitted that Milestone didn't create as much as a stir as its counterpart Droid.
