subject: Tanning Beds Secret: They Bolster Vitamin D Production [print this page] It's certainly no secret that the media has been pretty tough on tanning salons in recent years. Particularly when it comes to teens and tanning beds they've been pushing the message that there's a direct connection between indoor tanning and skin cancer.
Ask anyone who's been watching the news and they'll tell you that skin cancer is on the increase and that a measurable amount of that is directly connected to tanning beds. So then just what is the real story here?
The real story here is that over the past few decades mainstream media's credibility has been called into question in a number of issues. In fact it's now gotten to the point that anyone with any common sense knows that they have to double-check almost anything that they hear on mainstream news.
When it comes to tanning beds and skin cancer there's a number of things that they fail to mention. The first fact that they leave out is that people are living longer now, so yes people who have spent longer lifetimes in the sun are now more often developing skin cancers.
Then the second fact that they're leaving out is that there has been no direct scientific connection linking tanning beds with an increase in skin cancer rates. It's 'pure conjecture' that is brought out by the advent of tanning bed technology at about the same time skin cancer rates in older people are increasing.
Then a third fact that they leave out is that the light emitted by tanning beds is no more or less dangerous than natural sunlight. So people who tan indoors are subjecting themselves to the exact same risk as people laying outdoors for a tan.
Then the real shocker for a lot of people is that mainstream media has failed to point out that tanning beds work to bolster vitamin D production in your system. This in an age when osteoporosis brought about by vitamin D and calcium deficiencies is on the increase.
So they can't have it both ways here. If mainstream media insists on covering tanning beds and health issues then they must come clean and cover them fairly. This is important information concerning people's health that needs to be brought out.
It's high-time that tanning beds be covered in the media in a fair and unbiased fashion because the way they have been treated in recent years has left too many people with fears that are not backed up by fact.
