Marketing has certainly come a long way since the olden days where word of mouth referrals were the closest you could come to promoting yourselves. The information boom has overseen the meteoric rise of the Internet. The internet seems to be the place to be if you want to promote something. With almost everyone online and on the go, it seems only fair that Internet has turned into the perfect place for promotion and marketing. Web marketing has risen to the top of the list, when it comes to strategies that people are going to take when they have decided to market their products.

Web marketing is referred to as the marketing (generally promotion) of products or services over the Internet. Web marketing is considered to be broad in scope because it not only refers to marketing on the Internet, but also includes marketing done via e-mail and wireless media. Digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems are also often grouped together under web marketing.

Web marketing ties together the creative and technical aspects of the Internet, which includes design, development, advertising and sales. It also refers to the placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing, search engine optimization, banner ads on specific websites, email marketing, mobile advertising, and Web 2.0 strategies.

When one is a little skeptical about this, all they need to do is just look at the advantages on offer and no doubt, the mind will instantly know that this is the right thing to do. Web marketing is inexpensive when comparing the ratio of cost to the reach of the target audience. Companies can reach a wide audience for just a small fraction of budgets they traditionally used to have. The nature of the medium allows consumers to research and to purchase products and services at their leisure. Therefore, businesses have the advantage of appealing to consumers in a medium that can bring results quickly. The strategy and overall effectiveness of marketing campaigns depend on business goals and cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis.

Web marketers also have the advantage of measuring statistics easily and inexpensively; almost all aspects of a Web marketing campaign can be traced, measured, and tested, in many cases through the use of an ad server. The advertisers can use a variety of methods, such as pay per impression, pay per click, pay per play, and pay per action. Therefore, marketers can determine which messages or offerings are more appealing to the audience. The results of campaigns can be measured and tracked immediately because online marketing initiatives usually require users to click on an advertisement, to visit a website, and to perform a targeted action.

All this only goes to enhance the reputation of Web marketing, which is fast developing into something, the likes of which the world has never seen. It is an easy way to market, the returns are very good and there isnt much risk when it comes to this kind of marketing and most of all there isnt a requirement of a lot of start up capital unlike other marketing strategies. It is easy to implement and that is the reason why it is catching on like wild fire and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.
