At Salon Marjan, as all over the world, we wanted to note the passing of a legend in the world of hair styling. Vidal Sassoon passed away after a 2 year battle with leukemia in May of this year, he was 84. We mourn this hair dressing legend.
A Pioneer in His Field
Vidal Sassoon, a pioneer in hair styling, was credited with creating a simple geometric, "Bauhaus-inspired" hair style, also called the wedge bob.
His "wash and wear" philosophy liberated women from complicated, time consuming hair styles and he revolutionized the art of hair styling. He opened his first salon in London in 1954 and his popularity allowed him to open the first chain of worldwide salons and hair treatment products.
He changed the way everyone looked at hair. said Grace Coddington, Sassoon's former model and creative director of American Vogue. Before Sassoon, it was all back-combing and lacquer; the whole thing was to make it high and artificial. Suddenly you could put your fingers through your hair!
He Will Be Missed
His hair styles were so popular; he was described as a rock star, an artist, and a craftsman who changed the world with a pair of scissors, according to the biographical movie, Vidal Sassoon, The Movie, in which he starred.
He truly changed the world of hair and beauty. said Oscar Blandi, a New York stylist to celebrities and socialites and friend of Sassoons. He was definitely the most innovative person ever to enter the industry. He led the way for the celebrity stylists of today
Marjan studied at the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California. I feel privileged to have studied there. The classes were based on the culture that Sassoon created originally in London, said Marjan, I gained excellent technical skills, contemporary, forward-thinking insight and I left inspired to continue that high quality of work at Salon Marjan.
