Start to Fame in Just One Year
There are a lot of reasons why LMFAO is so popular and why the group is able to sell so much of their music, get their music played in clubs, and have their music selected for high-profile commercials. It all started in the Pacific Palisades, the affluent Los Angeles neighborhood where big celebrities, film makers, and musicians alike reside. Berry Gordy, the well-known music mogul that has worked with the likes of grand musicians such as Michael Jackson, is the man who helped form and make giants out of what is now known as LMFAO.
Skyler Austen Gordy, born in 1986 and now known as SkyBlu, and Stefan Kendal Gordy, born in 1975 and now known as Redfoo, formed the group back in 2006. Berry Gordy happens to be Redfoo's father and Redfoo happens to be SkyBlu's uncle - making them a well-rounded musical family. When they initially formed the group, they went by the name Sexe Dude, but quickly changed their name to LMFAO (Loving My Friends and Others) after a suggestion by their grandmother.
In 2008, Party Rock EP was released on iTunes and a year later, their full album dropped. They were virtually instant successes though the album charted at 33 on the Billboard charts but at number two on the US Dance Chart. "I'm In Miami, B*%@#" was used for numerous club remixes and throughout clubs in the US and beyond. Their music was sampled and used for the theme songs and on highly watched shows such as Jersey Shore. But that was just the beginning for LMFAO.
They continued to show up on collaborations with other musicians, most famously with David Guetta on "Gettin' Over You" which did extremely well internationally and which made the duo electropop even more famous. In 2011, LMFAO dropped Sorry for Party Rocking and the first single, "Party Rock Anthem", immediately went to number one on the charts. Since then, LMFAO has been party rocking stages everywhere and though they have only released two albums, have made themselves a household name. They appear on various tracks and continue to collaborate with other musicians to make sure everyone party rocks and gets their fans to do so.
