subject: Van Halen Tickets - Son Of Eddie Van Halen To Play Bass On Reunion Tour [print this page]

Van Halen tickets went on sale shortly after the band announced a national summer tour, and for Van Halen's dedicated fan base, the rock legends are one of the hottest touring acts this year. While Van Halen has added and dropped members regularly since the late 1980s, the current lineup is perhaps their strongest ever.

Eddie Van Halen plays guitar, of course, and his brother Alex Van Halen plays the drums. David Lee Roth, the band's first and most popular vocalist, will join them along with Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, who plays the bass.

Some Van Halen fans have wondered whether the reformed band can play as well as they did during their first successful run three decades ago. If guitarist Eddie Van Halen has lost a step, he certainly does not show it in his live performances.

Eddie can still play lightning-fast guitar licks without missing a beat. He showed his incredible technical proficiency on tracks like "As Is" on A Different Kind Of Truth, released in February of 2012. In Van Halen's live shows, he plays classic riffs at a frenetic pace, slamming through classic songs like "Hot For Teacher" and "Running With The Devil" with amazing speed.

His son definitely keeps up. Wolfgang made his first recorded appearance on A Different Kind of Truth, where he displayed thunderous bass riffs that stayed in line with Van Halen's earlier releases. However, die-hard Van Halen fans had already seen Wolfgang on stage, as he has toured with the band since 2004 and has served as their regular bassist since 2007.

Wolfgang took time off after Van Halen's 2008 world tour to go to school, but he joined back up with the band to record in 2010. This year, he will join the band on stage at arenas and amphitheaters across the United States.

Like a young Eddie or Alex, Wolfgang sports a long haircut and an incredible musical range. In addition to the bass, he can play the guitar and drums proficiently. He can capably handle former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony's role, and according to some fans and critics, he brings youth and vitality to the stage throughout Van Halen's enthralling new live show.

While Wolfgang makes a tremendous addition, many fans are excited to see David Lee Roth rejoin the band. Although Roth has had a tumultuous relationship with Eddie and Alex Van Halen, the singer appears comfortable on stage. The days of backstage fights are finally over, and the renewed Van Halen is stronger than ever. Roth can handle hits from the band's older albums with ease, and his vocal acrobatics are still impressive.

Van Halen took several months off after recording A Different Kind of Truth and have arranged a string of dates to promote the new album. Unlike many of their contemporaries, they often play more than 20 songs per night, including classic hits with new rockers to drive their fans into a frenzy. It's a breathless, unforgettable show thanks to the stellar musicianship of one of the most influential acts in popular heavy metal.
