subject: An Insight Into Common Physiotherapy Problems [print this page]

In recent years as pain issues are rising, so are its treatment options. Physiotherapy is a widely applied treatment which helps to overcome pain and helps the body to relax. It has now become a major healthcare profession, wherein the body is not only diagnosed, but is also treated for ailments. It promotes maximum movement and functionality to the body. But there are certain ethical problems associated with this treatment which are a matter of concern. Vancouver physiotherapy discusses a few problems of physiotherapy

Common Problems

" No end point of the treatment: unlike other streams of medicine such as surgery or obstetrics, there is a end point of physiotherapy. The course of treatment is not defined, and the patient has no clear idea regarding the duration. This is makes it difficult as the patient has to budget his treatment accordingly.

" Close or personal relationship with the therapist: Usually a patient has to undergo 10 or more physiotherapy sessions. There is a lot involvement with the patient as the body is manipulated and mobilized. Thus there is no code of conduct and in such cases there is much emotional involvement.

" Treatment involves participation of both, the patient as well as the therapist: In order to make the treatment successful, full participation of both, the patient as well as the therapist is important. If the patient is not taking interest and does not do the required exercises, the entire treatment is a waste because then it is not effective.

" The effectiveness of the treatment cannot be measured: It is a slow process which shows its effect very subtly and slowly. Most people do not find it effective as the results are not immediate. Instead, most people are required to undergo extensive treatment that may stretch for months.

" Costly option: As the entire treatment involves many sessions, it is a very costly treatment option. Most patients are unable to cope up with the high fees and leave the treatment halfway. Due to this, there is no effect seen, and the patient instead ends up losing a lot of money.

" It requires involvement of loved ones: Being a wholesome approach, physiotherapy insists on the involvement of family and friends in order to be effective. This may not be possible always and is thus a complicated approach.

Even though these common problems plague the proper functioning of physiotherapy treatment, its effectiveness cannot be ignored. Today sports injury, back ailments, painful conditions and growth disorders are all successfully treated using physiotherapy. Even though a relatively new science, it is evolving itself and many new procedures are being added that have a wide application.

Physiotherapists work towards curing the patient with a wholesome approach which enables the patient to recover completely. Vancouver physiotherapy is an effective approach, if undertaken with an open mind and a complete understanding of the procedure. Evolving treatments will further widen ts application, insuring better exposure and ready acceptance by all.
