subject: How To Buy The Essentials For Your Baby Without Breaking The Bank [print this page]

Everyone knows that having a baby can be expensive. With hundreds of important purchases and a thousand products to choose from, it can be hard to know when to stop. An even bigger problem is the role of celebrity parents who can be seen splashing out, on average, 446,000 pounds on new baby products. For example, did you know that the average parent spends nearly 327 pounds on a new cot whereas the comparable celebrity spend can be nearly 7,500 pounds!

Recent figures suggest that the total spend on new baby products of the average British couple is around 2,500 pounds, even this can be far too much for most parents to afford. The secret to not breaking the bank when buying baby products is to make sure you only get the essentials and do not splash out on unnecessary items. The most important items to ensure you buy first can be products like car seats, which are not only vital pieces of safety equipment but are also legal requirements. This is certainly a more important than a motorized nappy disposal unit or a fashionable rocking horse that your baby may soon grow out of.

Another item that should be on the top of the baby shopping list is a pushchair or pram. Pushchairs are not only great for sending your little one off to sleep but are important for getting to places and keeping babies warm while outside. The biggest problem that parents face when buying a pushchair is knowing how much to pay. While a celebrity may spend 47,000 pounds on a pushchair, the average parent only spends 292 pounds. While this may still seem like a large amount of money, it is important to remember that this will be one of the most used purchases; therefore the pushchair must be of sufficient quality to withstand repeated use.

High chairs are a final example of an important baby purchase; they are often inexpensive and long lasting but provide a vital function. Having a high chair allows your new arrival to be sat with the family at meal times; as such a good high chair needs to be easily cleaned and maintained. Very cheap high chairs may not have protected fabric and may stain with spilt food. In the same respect buying a very expensive high chair often fails to add any real benefits, making a value for money purchase easy to be had.
