subject: Repairing Damages Of The Drywall Of Your House [print this page]

Many homeowners had chosen the drywall for their abodes. This drywall is very simple to mount and it is economical with fire-resistant features. You can have it painted, use wall paper on it or you can also texture the said wall. You will not have any problem in maintaining the drywall construction in your home; your drywall repair can be easily administered.

Regarding repairs of the drywall, there are four major damages that would need repairs. These are the existence of holes, cracks, dents and sections.

Holes

In repairing holes, you will need basic repair tools such as sharp knives, drywall panel, measuring scale, paint or texture that is identical to your wall and joint compound, also known as drywall mud. To implement the repair, you will have to start by measuring the hole that has to be patched. Cut your drywall panel four inches larger than the measured hole. This will be your wall patch. Cut 2 inches off on all four sides of this wall patch. Cut this hole bigger and in the same size as the patch. Coat the edges of the hole with the joint compound then place the drywall patch over the enlarged hole. Clean up any extra compound and leave the drywall to dry, at least overnight. Apply another coat of the compound and paint when dry.

Cracks

Repairing the crack in an area of the drywall is also easy to do. You will need sheet rock, utility knife, mesh tape, one inch drywall screw, quick dry dust joint compound, drill, drywall knife and drywall sanding block. Wear gloves when working with the joint compound.

Sections

You will need to expose the framing stud inside the wall. Do this by cutting away the damaged section of the sheet rock. Measure the area needing repair and prepare a pattern of this area. Once you have measured and cut the replacement piece, place it in the opening. Adjust the edges to fit snugly in the area. Use your screw to install this new drywall. Put mesh tape on the edges of the joints; then apply joint compound using smooth and even strokes. Conceal the screw head with joint compound. Smoothen the surface with the sanding block then paint with flat primer coat. Finalize by applying matching paint. Let this dry completely.

Dent

Resurface the small patches of the wall. Sand block then brush away the dust caused by sanding the area. Using a piece of mesh tape, cover the damaged area. Apply joint compound in even strokes. Give time to cure then paint.

Drywall repair problems like holes, cracks, sections and dents can be easily done. If you are a DIY (do-it-yourself) person, you can easily do the repair by yourself.
