subject: The Mysterious Frozen Shoulder And Its Symptoms [print this page]

If youve ever woken up with quite a debilitating feeling in your shoulder, and you didnt know what it was, you may be surprised to learn that there is a real diagnosis for whats ailing you. Only recently termed in the late 90s, frozen shoulder is the name of this pain. Here is more on this curious diagnosis, and some of the signs that will indicate that you have it.

Frozen shoulder is rarely the result of an underlying disease, or something inherited through genetics, though it has happened. It is an over-reaction of the body to inflammation, but its not easy to pin down exactly what the cause of it is. Thankfully, once cured, it very rarely comes back in the same shoulder.

Frozen shoulder can make you feel mildly debilitated, as itll be hard to move your arm in a number of directions without feeling considerable pain. There are a number of everyday things that will be harder to do. You may feel great night pains and find yourself awaking at night, as itll be difficult to lie on the side that is hurting in bed. You may have frozen shoulder if you find it difficult and painful to brush your teeth, or even your hair. Moving your arm in general will cause pain, and you may find that youre sweating more too.

Sometimes a list of symptoms can be general, and might induce fear or worry that you have a condition, when really it might be caused by something else, or perhaps, hopefully, its something minor that will pass altogether. Be sure to get a diagnosis if you seriously fear this is happening to you, because it its frozen shoulder until it is diagnosed as such.

Frozen shoulder may last for months, and it may come on for seemingly no reason at all, though sometimes a trauma, shoulder surgery, or breast reconstruction can cause frozen shoulder. It is a serious condition that requires consultation, because there are certainly effective treatment options, but it needs to be confirmed that this is in fact frozen shoulder, not something else, first. Youll know something is wrong if there are serious mobility problems with your arm on one side, including pain and the inability to move your arm with a wide range of motion. Once this is proven to be frozen shoulder, the quest can be undertaken to regain your mobility.

Thankfully we live in an age where new diagnoses are terming ailments we might have once called something else, and so new means of treatment are available. It is a fortunate time because it allows us to find greater relief for conditions that once confounded us. Hopefully in the future, the mysterious frozen shoulder will become even less murky, but for now, we should be happy that we know more about it than we once did, and that there is a wide range of effective treatments available since the new diagnosis has been made.
