subject: Using A Collection Agency To Get Your Outstanding Child Support Payments [print this page]

When a married couple with a child split apart its a horrible situation for many reasons. There are emotions involved and there are tons of legal implications between the former spouses, but perhaps most important of all is what happens to the child, or the children. Suddenly income takes on a new meaning as the mother, who may not have had a job during the marriage, is forced to start a career anew. Its up to the father to pay child support, but unfortunately this is not always forthcoming. For a single mother, its necessary to have this stream of income, and receiving a certain amount of it is mandatory by law. But like always, just because the law states things should be a certain way does not always make it so. This is where a collection agency comes in.

For mothers who suddenly have to begin a career, it can be intimidating and scary. To make things worse, the kid or kids depend on their mom, and she has no choice but to support them. That things didnt work out between the two parents is sad, but its even worse if this is allowed to seriously affect the well-being of the children. If an ex-husband holds out on his children, and leaves it to his ex-wife to support them alone, he places them all in a horrible place by relinquishing himself from his responsibilities. Thankfully there are institutions like collection agencies who set things right by pursuing the ex-husband for the money he is owing.

A single-mother has more than enough to worry about without having the added anxiety of wondering when her child support will arrive. She doesnt have to do the dirty work if she hires a collection agency. Besides, there are all kinds of reasons why an ex-wife doesnt want to speak to her ex-husband. Even if the break up is civil, it can be emotionally very difficult to ask an ex-spouse for money. Its much better to outsource this problem to somebody who does it for a living, and who doesnt have the emotional freight that exists between two formerly married people. Besides, if the father has decided he is not going to give the money over freely, being asked for it isnt likely to change his mind. What might work though is an independent agency involving themselves in the dispute. Sometimes an ex-husband feels like he is losing face if he has to give up money to a woman who he isnt married to. Of course this isnt justified, but if he hands the money over to an intermediary, hell be more likely to transfer the funds.

When the children are involved, this money is essential, and providing child support is mandated by law. Thankfully there is a service which enforces this most important law, and acts in the benefit of the vulnerable, needy parties. It is important single mothers know about this crucial recourse.
