subject: Does The Mighty Death Pop! Signal The End Of Icp Cds? [print this page]

Every Juggalo and Juggalette reading this has fond memories of traveling to the record store, fumbling through the endless catalogue of ICP CDs in search of the selection with their favorite Insane Clown Posse song. Sadly enough, that experience died for most music fans years ago, and its about to die for Juggalos and Jugalettes as well.

Thats because Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have vowed that The Mighty Death Pop! will probably be the last ICP CD they release in a physical format. The reasons for this are many, but they parallel the reasons that other artists and record labels have followed suit.

The truth of the matter is, Insane Clown Posse songs in 2012 are best found through legal channels like iTunes, Spotify, or YouTube. In some cases, Juggalos and Juggalettes can access their favorite Insane Clown Posse songs for free, legally. If thats the case, why purchase any ICP CD, especially a new, expensive combo package like The Mighty Death Pop!?

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have clearly thought long and hard about this, because The Mighty Death Pop!s marketing strategy is positioned around this ICP CD being scarce in years to come. More specifically, they are packaging The Mighty Death Pop! in three different combinationseach having one copy of The Mighty Death Pop! and one unique bonus album. So, if you truly want every last Insane Clown Posse song being released in conjunction with The Mighty Death Pop!, you have to purchase all three packages.

As you might imagine, many Juggalos and Juggalettes are none too pleased with this marketing tactic. And its hard to not point out that it is no longer 1995 when this kind of tactic might have been fruitful, because all it takes in 2012 for one Juggalo to get his hands on all Insane Clown Posse songs coming out with The Mighty Death Pop! is to look online and download it illegally.

Perhaps J and Dope trust their fans with precious Insane Clown Posse songs more than that, but chances are that fans are more likely find away around the mandatory three album purchase, especially once Insane Clown Posse songs start leaking.

That being said, if The Mighty Death Pop! does end up being the last grouping of Insane Clown Posse songs to be released on a physical format, then every Mighty Death Pop! combo package is going to be a very valuable collectors item in 10 years. It might be smart for Juggalos and Juggalettes to view purchasing The Mighty Death Pop! now as an investment that will pay high dividends down the road, even if the Insane Clown Posse songs on the album arent well received. The ICP CD itself will be a commodity!

You may have also heard that this ICP CD wont be supported by a full length tour as has been customary for the lineage of other ICP CD releases. Clearly, J and Dope are experimenting once again, which has usually proven to be a good thing in the past!
