subject: Tips For Building Mobile Games [print this page]

In a world densely stuffed with mobile apps, how an exclusive gaming app can be built? When adding together the figures of all parties, the estimation is that 50bn apps have been downloaded so far. And most of these apps fall into gaming category. Apple, for example, pays out approx $1bn in a quarter to developers, but what about those 90 percent apps that make less than $1,000?

Believe it or not, many mobile app developers are throwing away their opportunity to cash in when the app is ultimately released. But, it does not mean that they cannot succeed. If they follow the tips given below, their game developments for iPhone, Android, Windows and Blackberry would also give good ROI.

Quality is KING

Success does not come through magic its all about quality. So many apps are underperforming for so long, while some very fresh apps have become so popular within weeks or months. The reason is simple and of course observable, too. It is quality that wins out, always.

Marketing Plan is the demand of time

You have hot ideas for a gaming app, but you have never thought of a marketing plan. Why? Developers with no marketing plans do not go anywhere. Being hopeful sounds a trait of positive attitude, but not in case of business. No argument if your work is dedicated to public welfare; however, if you really want to earn through a mobile game app, you must decide marketing strategy and then the budget accordingly. No compromise when it comes to marketing, seriously.

Go for Promotion, not for sensitization

Promotion is healthy, because it makes people aware of a product you have. But, sensitization is not good. As a dark shade of promotion and marketing, sensitization creates a fake image of product for quite simple reasons. And it happens in mobile application development market too. There are many apps that artificially move up the popularity chart. Wrong demographic of mobile apps is popular these days, but it downgrades the brand. It is often seen with free apps with high quality market positioning and low quality functions. After downloading and using such app, the user says - this is crap.

Make it free to reach widest audience.

If you launch your game app only with a paid version, you get a very controlled small number of users that are willing to pay. But, if you really want a successful game, it is better you make it free. You can also launch the free game with in-app purchase features.

Icon is the first reflection

Many think an icon is not more than an entry to the app. But, it is the first impression and everybody knows that first impression is the last impression. Creating an icon requires a painstaking amount of hours of work. If you are not able to make your own, you can hire an icon developer.

Update the app information continuously.

You must update the information with the changes. If you keep content that has been there for four or five years, then it is going to attract no one. Audience visits your page as often as you change information on it. So, you should not heavily rely on app stores as they have hundreds of thousands other apps to care for. You need to do it on your own.
