subject: The Disparity Between Ball Mill And Pebble Mill [print this page]

First, our engineer will give a brief introduction about the three main parts of ball mill. The three parts are as follows, feeding part, discharge part and transmission part.1. Feeding part: This part consists of end cap with hollow shaft neck, united feeder, sector lining plate and axis neck inner housing. The hollow shaft neck can protect the axis neck inner surface from wearing by feeding.2. Discharge part: This part consists of end cap of hollow shaft, grid lining plate, wedge, centre lining plate, and axis neck inner housing. There are eight actinoid fillets, acting as the isolation board. There is grid lining plate between the fillets which is fixed by wedge. The wedge is fixed onto the end cap by screw passing through the fillet on the wall. The front edge of the lining plate holds up all grid lining plates in the central part. 3. Transmission part: This part consists of gearwheel, pinion, drive shaft, and elastic coupling. The grinding mill cylinder is driven by gear assembly, electric motor and coupling. The gear assembly consists of gear ring on the discharge end of the cylinder and drive gear.

Second, let us talk about the pebble mill.

Pebble grinding can be divided into single-section gravel grinding and double-section gravel grinding. Factors affecting gravel dosage include: ore abrasion resistance, particle size, slurry concentration, mill diameter and speed, the board material. With the increasing of gravel grinding diameter, the unit dosage increased significantly. Because of the small gravel density, the slurry solids concentration is low, typically 60% to 65%. In order to ensure the appropriate amount of gravel media, the gravel media must be timely and accurately add. To this end, the gravel grinding process must be controlled automatically.

Pebble grinding is a grinding way with gravel as media. Pebble mill and ball mill are basically same in structure, only different in grinding media. The granularity of the gravel media in general - 80 - +30 mm with various shape, such as ellipsoid-shape, egg-shape. There generally are three ways to obtain gravel: dedicated preparation from the crushing operations; the hard grinding particles produced in grinding process; other ways, such as get from natural pebbles. The density of gravel used in pebble grinding process is generally smaller than that of steel ball, but friction coefficient and contact area between the gravel and grinding materials are greater than the ball, therefore pebble mill has weak impact and strong peel force, and suitable for fine grinding. Due to the similar structure of pebble mill and ball mill, it is unnecessary to make fundamental change when convert ball mill into a pebble mill, in order to maintain the original concentrator processing capabilities, we need to increase the mill volume capacity or quantity.
