subject: How Do I Know If The Antenna I Choose Is 4g Compatible? [print this page]

It has come to our attention that on some online forums that people are concerned that 4G antennas might not be 4G antennas at all. Posts have been added asking, "How do we know those are 4G antennas. I don't see a 4G or an LTE stamp on them. For all I care they could be plain old 3G antennas." So how can you be sure that you are looking at 4G antennas?

4G antennas are actually quite simple and follow the same principles that regular 3G antennas do.

For a start, you need to ensure that you are choosing your antenna from a reputable antenna supplier. A good antenna retailer would not rebrand 3G antennas as 4G.

If you are looking to buy a 4G antenna, you will probably be browsing the LTE antennas or the WiMax antenna range, as these are the forerunners for 4G antenna equipment.

The main thing to look out for to ensure that your antenna is 4G compatible is the operating frequency of the antenna in the product description. 4G is available on a couple of different frequencies. LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the 4G mobile broadband services operating on 700 MHz whilst WiMax standards in 802.16. The antenna product description should reflect these frequencies.

Finally, the best reassurance you can get is from an impartial source that has tried and tested the antenna themselves. Have a look online for product reviews of the 4G antennas that you are interested in before you buy to see what other people have said about the antennas. Product reviews can give you an idea of what an antenna is like, however, you do need to read them with an open mind. Was the author of the comment technically minded, were there other issues they may prevent the 4G antenna from performing, an so on.

If ever you are in doubt, it's always best to contact the supplier directly and ask them for their advice. A good 4G antenna supplier will point you to the right antenna for your needs.
