Connect iPod

Always click on No. After making sure that the iTunes is not synchronizing, you can now go ahead and access the My Computer window. On that window, the iPod drive should now be there.

Show Hidden Files and Folders

To be able to access your music files, you must enable the Show Hidden Files and Folders options on the Folder Options dialog box. To do this, look for the Tool button on the File Menu. Click on that Tool button and afterwards, look for the Folder Options button. Once clicked, the Folder Options dialog box will appear. In that dialog box, there should some tabs. You must click on the View tab. After that, you must now look for the Show Hidden Files and Folders radio button. To make sure it will work, click on the Apply Button and then the OK button.

Now, open the iPod drive. Inside that drive, now, there should be a folder named ipod_control. Open that directory and the music folders will be present on that folder. You can now check each folder to look for the music file you would wish to copy. On the other hand, if you are going to create a backup, you can just copy all the music folders in there. You can just paste the music folders to your desktop and safely remove the iPod from your computer.
