subject: Effective Alcohol Intervention Programs [print this page]

Along with drug addiction, alcohol dependency is one of the world's main obsession issues. Though drinking alcohol can shortly bring forth a state of pleasure and comfort, excessive consumption may result in signs of depression and even worse, addiction. People may initially feel that alcohol can cure general sad feelings and lack of self confidence. But after a while, motor coordination will be impaired, and the brief excitement caused by alcohol will likely be replaced by depression, surliness and increased temper. Regular intoxication can bring about a failure in physical and mental well being.

People who become alcoholics early on in life are much more at risk of depression. Alcohol might boost frequency of depressive thoughts. Studies show that about 30% of individuals with alcohol dependency experience signs and symptoms that resemble depression. And a little percentage of people with a depressive condition have an alcohol addiction problem. We are able to see that there exists some form of connection between addiction to alcohol and depressive disorders.

It is best to look for therapy early if alcoholism is starting to affect one's relationships with family and friends, school or work. Most alcoholics deny that they have a difficulty and will do their best to ignore it. Members of the family and close friends can help their family members face their alcoholism problem and make them enroll in a program for alcohol intervention.

During the last ten years new study on how alcohol affects our thought processes and brain functions and on how alcoholism might be treated has been made. Alcohol intervention treatment centers have sprouted up here and there, and a lot of people are at a loss on what the most efficient treatment for alcohol addiction is. There can be no one "sure-cure" plan, although an addict will probably be twice as likely to overcome alcohol addiction if he is enrolled in such a program.

Several therapies are available that include positive thinking exercises and intervention plans, with the goal of assisting individuals with alcoholism overcome their dependence on alcohol. These types of plans help alcoholics take control of their own lives again, and make contact with reality once more. Up to now these programs have demostrated a promising rate of success. Yet another method could be cognitive behavioral treatment that is also used for all those experiencing depression and Obsessive-compulsive disorder. This is aimed at discovering the root of a person's alcohol problems and then finding a way to cope with it.

Recovery from alcohol addiction and depression is hard for those without motivation to get rid themselves of it. However with positive thinking and the right amount of help and support, anybody may be successful on their trip to recovery.
