Wikipedia lists around 25 different varieties of bed. But the most commonly used ones are Bunk bed, platform bed and sofa beds. Bunk bed is a type of bed in which one frame is stacked over another. This is mainly used in kids room or in homes where space is a big constraint. A platform bed is one in which the base is slightly raised from the ground using a solid frame. A sofa bed is one in which the frame can be extended to open up into a bed. This again is used in places where space is a big constraint. In addition to this there are storage beds which provide storage facility underneath.

A designer bed can be made of wood or metal. While selecting a wooden bed, one should always go in for a hard wood variety as these are more durable than soft wood. A metal bed is sturdy due to the wrought iron it is made of. These beds can be of contemporary, modern or antique finish. One should select the bed taking into consideration the theme, color etc of the room. The latest trend is to go in for dark colored walls and white beds and accessories.

Modern designer bed is available in two sizes- king and queen size. There is also a third size called California King which is common in USA. Whichever type and size of bed is used one should make sure that it goes well with the theme of dcor of the room. If the bedroom is set in an antique finish then the bed should also have the same finish. On the other hand if contemporary style is followed then furniture and accessories should follow suit.

Buying a designer bed is no more a tedious job. The number of online shops that has come up in recent years has made this a very easy task. One can be assured that the designer bed will be delivered to the doorstep at the click of a mouse.
