However, a year after the competition, One Direction signed with Syco Records, Simon Cowell's company, in 2011. In North America, One Direction signed with famed record company Columbia Records.
Their debut album, Up All Night, featured the boys teaming up with the likes of Steve Mac, Tom Fletcher, Kelly Clarkson, and numerous other artists in collaborative songs. As the most pre-ordered single in history for Sony Music Entertainment, "What Makes You Beautiful" also made them a number one UK group. Spreading their popularity to the U.S., One Direction became the first UK group to debut on the Billboard Chart's number one with their first album. They have only been together for a little over a year and already they are making huge strides in the music industry.
They have made music fans think twice about boy bands, causing a resurgence. Although they are still currently on tour in support of their debut album, One Direction is already hard at work on their second release in Sweden. This album is poised to make them superstars.
