subject: Nfl Tickets- Qb Competitions Going Into 2012 Season [print this page] More and more, quarterback performance has become an indicator of a victorious season for NFL teams. They are the center of the team and in most cases (it should be all) they are the leaders of their respective teams. It is no wonder, then, that so many more NFL teams are focusing their attention on obtaining, trading, and/or keeping stellar quarterbacks and working on building them up. Although there are a decent number of NFL teams (more accurately, 20) going into the 2012 season that can say they have a starting quarterback, there are 12 others that are struggling with selecting their starters. With much of the season, and the sale of NFL tickets, hinging on the quarterback, it is safe to say that if a team is having trouble picking one, they may not have a stellar season. Here are just some of the QB competitions currently going on.
Seattle Seahawks - Russell Wilson vs. Tarvaris Jackson vs. Matt Flynn:
The Seahawks are one of the teams garnering the most attention going into the 2012 season. They have three quarterbacks to select from and cannot seem to find the best fit for their team. Seattle had a decent season in 2011 and is looking to make the playoffs in 2013, but first they have to pick a QB. First, there is Russell Wilson who is a good quarterback and will likely, at some point, start as QB - but it may not be this season. Then there is Jackson, who wasn't able to make much of an impact last season. Matt Flynn will likely be the starting quarterback, at least from the onset of the season, but he'll have to prove himself.
New York Jets - Tim Tebow vs. Mark Sanchez:
The Seahawks may have gotten a lot of attention, but the Jets have had the most controversy. There might not be much competition currently, as Sanchez is still a great quarterback. However, he will need to vastly improve this season so that fans can continue to believe in him. But if the Jets do lose a game because of Sanchez, there will undoubtedly be pressure to put Tebow in - and that's when the competition will start. Tebow chose the Jets because he knows he can thrive in that type of environment so only time will tell if he'll get a chance to start.
Tennessee Titans - Jake Locker vs. Matt Hasselback:
The Titans truly believe they have a shot at the playoffs this season, and they have all the right to be. Their winning season last year came thanks to Hasselback's great plays. He's a veteran in the league, still has good accuracy, and if given enough to work with, can have another winning season. The team also needs a veteran leader and Hasselback is it for now. Locker impressed the Titans during limited action last season and is expected be the quarterback of the future, just not the quarterback of right now. That is, of course, unless he can outperform the veteran Hasselback in the preseason.
