subject: Mixing Up A Student Day [print this page]

Students are - perhaps unfairly - stereotyped as getting up around midday, watching Neighbours and Countdown before sloping off to the Student Union for a few cheap drinks. Of course, while there's nothing wrong with you can buck the trend and have an interesting alternative day.

Book a Hot Air Balloon Flight

The reason that hot air balloon flights are so unlike normal student activities is because many of them take place at dawn, and so you have to get up really rather early to go on one. This means you can feel a sense of moral superiority as you breakfast while your bleary-eyed flatmates stumble in and to bed. Hot air balloon rides are very enjoyable in their own right, as they allow you to see your local area from a completely different perspective, and if, like many students, you are studying away from your home town, this means you can really get to understand the geography of where you study so much more quickly.

Go To A Spa

Students are hardly renowned for treating themselves - unless you consider it a treat to neck several Bacardi Breezers before emptying the contents of your stomach in a nightclub toilet a few minutes later as treating yourself - but if you go to a spa for the afternoon then you can get access to all sorts of treatments that will not only make you feel healthier but look healthier as well. You'll enjoy being pampered and therefore return to your student digs ready to crack on with whatever the rest of terms has to throw at you.

Go Swimming In The Sea

The only type of sea swimming a lot of students do is skinny-dipping in the Med when they are on their summer holidays, however if you study in or near a coastal town a trip to the sea can be extremely invigorating. If you're a relatively strong swimmer you can always nip into the water - which will be very cold - and go for a short swim, meaning that you'll once again feel fantastic when you get out. If you really want a shock to the system then do it first thing in the morning, but if you do it just before sunset it will probably be more beautiful.

As you can see there are plenty of ways to shake up that student routine - how would you change your pace for just one day?
