If youre a diamond manufacturer, diamond dealer or retailer, you have likely heard of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The difference between ordinary diamonds and GIA loose diamonds are in the certification: a GIA certification describes in detail every aspect of the diamond that gives it its worth. When purchasing a diamond with GIA certification, you know that youre buying a diamond of high quality and value. The GIA provides services other than inspection to diamond dealers and manufacturers.

The GIA provides a laser inscription service for your loose GIA diamonds. The GIA can inscribe the girdle of the diamond with the GIA report number (also known as GIA Inscription Registry Number). Upon request, you may also have inscribed a personal text, message, or images and symbols. This service is included if you subscribe to the Diamond Dossier service package. Diamond inscription can serve as a method of branding for each diamond, or an easy way to identify it or personalize it.

You can also resubmit your diamonds to the GIA for a re-evaluation and updated report. This is a viable service to use after a diamond has been re-cut. The diamond goes through the same rigorous process and a new graded report is written.

A diamond type analysis comes with every GIA diamond report. This analysis determines what type of diamond is being analyzed and grades accordingly. The result is provided verbally, yet can also be written upon request.

A damage assessment is also provided within the overall report. This report analyzes and reports any damage that may have occurred since the diamonds most recent polish.

The Master Diamond Grading is used for a master set of diamonds that are categorized within the D through Z color range. The diamonds qualified for this kind of grading must meet strict GIA criteria, including weight, shape, condition, and proportions.

After receiving your GIA diamond report, you can also use the GIA Report Check, a free online service which allows you to verify the diamond grading registry number and ensure that it matches the information found on the database. All you need is the registry number and carat weight of the diamond evaluated to reveal more information on the diamond. This free check is limited to diamonds graded after year 2000.

Another free service from GIA is the Facetware Cut Estimator. This report will give your diamond a rough estimate grade for any round diamond based on the proportion and finish information you input.

The GIA provides diamond sealing, which packages your diamond safely and snugly in a tamper-resistant container. Keep in mind that this service will not fit diamonds over eight carats in size.

The Quality Assurance service helps you identify and confirm whether the diamonds are natural or synthetic; if its the latter, the test can also identify how the diamond was specifically treated. This service can be provided for diamonds one-half carat or smaller.

These extra services provided by the GIA ensure that your diamonds are handled with the utmost care and examined by the sharpest eyes in the industry. Please contact the GIA for information on pricing and fees for services.
