subject: What Tree Surgeons Do [print this page]

Tree Surgeons get involved in many tasks, and while it would be difficult to detail them all here there are several broad areas in which they tend to spend most of their time. This article gives you an overview of how a tree surgeon may be able to help you.

Tree Surgery

It's hardly surprising that a tree surgeon can perform tree surgery, but what should be of interest to you is the number of areas in which they can help. For example, tree surgery is very much about ensuring that a tree can continue to grow and flourish without it impeding on the area around it too much, and therefore making sure that the tree in question is in healthy state - without disease or serious fault lines - is very much part of that. Consequently a lot of tree surgery is about major pruning, about crown lifting or thinning and removing branches or limbs in a safe manner.

Tree Removal

Most people realise that when they need to remove a tree they had best call in the experts because it's usually a huge job. A tree surgeon starts by making sure that the tree in question is allowed to be moved as if it is protected this could cause legal problems. They then go on to remove the trunk in a safe way that ensures that whichever way the trunk falls there will be minimal damage. Finally, the tree surgeon will need to grind the stump down - this often requires specialist machinery - so that the tree doesn't grow back, either above or below the ground.

Advice

Tree surgeons are, unsurprisingly, very knowledgeable about trees and the laws surrounding them. A tree surgeon can be useful to an insurance company, for example, as they can provide advice on the dangers of a tree or how its roots might impact of a building that is about to be insured. At the same time, tree surgeons can also provide advice on matters such as estate management or tree planting schemes to ensure that the trees in question can live long and healthy lives.

As you can see these are the main three areas where a tree surgeon tends to work - and there is a lot to each area which cannot be covered in this article. As with most things, it's often good to speak to a professional before carrying out a task as they will have a much better understanding of the challenges you may face.
