subject: Contemplating A Home Or Office Move? Then Heres Why You Should Know Your Packaging Material [print this page]

Growing awareness about varying quality levels of storage services is slowly bumping up the overall industry standard. Clients have begun probing deeper into service provider claims and demanding site visits to verify things for themselves. While this level of engagement is great, the fact still remains that most home or office move clients are unaware about things at their end. Sub-standard packaging is proving to be a huge factor in the damage of belongings while in storage. Improper use of packaging material and lack of knowledge about the sheer number of options on the part of their customers continue to stick out like the proverbial thorn in the flesh for service providers.

While the packaging material world is one ultra-expansive universe, there are a few basics that every home or office move client should know.

The Emperor:

Boxes: Most familiar of packaging materials, these brown enclosures that come in various shapes and sizes prove to be quite the workhorse during a move. But not all boxes are made the same, so careful with what you choose. Single-walled boxes are best for light-weight storage tasks. Anything heavier than a couple of pounds and one needs to call in double-walled boxes of the corrugated kind. One can purchase them in separates according to individual needs or go in for an all-in-one option that includes a pre-fixed number of boxes in varying sizes to suit most common purposes. Environment conscious people find a way out of this by using recycled boxes or even moving onto alternatives like plastic re-usable boxes. It is a bit impractical at times, the latter option, but it helps save the environment.

Three Faithfulls

All Round Protection: It is not just a stress buster but also a valuable protective material. What began as a failed attempt at wallpaper and greenhouse insulator has today turned out to be a huge success as a cushion for all things precious.

Save the China: When it comes to keep the chinaware safe, the earlier method of wrapping them in newsprint is no longer safe. The chemicals in the ink can leach and scar the delicate surfaces. This is why, when looking at protecting the chinaware, one should go in for tissue wraps to do the job. Just ensure that the tissue-wraps are acid-free though.

Shrink em Up: Assorted knick-knacks that have an uncanny propensity to disappear when they are needed most can be quite frustrating. This is when, one should raid the kitchen and bind them up in shrink wrapping.

Support Roles:

There are a lot many other packing materials apart from those mentioned above that prove to be indispensable during a home or office move. Coloured marker pens, brightly painted labels, Duct tape, packing tape, Signs (Fragile, this side up, etc.), gloves, bungee cords being just a few from the list.

A few curious souls may declare that hiring a reputed movers and packers service absolves them of their responsibilities. Truth is, awareness might just save the day by improving the service quality, through greater vigilance.
