subject: What To Look For In A Yellow Lab Breeder [print this page]

Labrador Retrievers are among the most popular breed of dogs in the United States as well as Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Its not at all surprising considering this particular breed is known for being playful, helpful, intelligent, good-tempered, andmost important of allloyal. Labradors are great pets for children and even older people because they provide both entertainment and companionship. They excel as guard dogs for the home, especially the adult males who can reach up to 24 inches and 88 pounds when fully grown. They are also favorites of soldiers and police officers for their working ability as well as for being able to sniff out explosives and illegal drugs.

Yellow Labradors are among the most sought out Labradors today. If you want to have a Yellow Lab in your home, you can always check out any of several Yellow Lab breeders in or near your community. Since these dogs are very popular throughout the United States, its only natural that they be bred and made available to anyone interested in them.

Virtually all Yellow Lab breeders also specialize in the two other Labrador color varieties of Black and Chocolate. They provide mainly Lab puppies but older or started dogs and even studs are also available through some of these breeders. All dogs, especially the puppies, receive the best of care to ensure they will be friendly and loyal to their new owners even if they have to adjust to unfamiliar surroundings. This significantly reduces the time owners spend getting acquainted with their dogs and vice-versa.

Veterinarians and experienced dog owners alike will advise anyone against buying puppies from the so-called backyard breeders and puppy mills, even if many of these have been known to produce pure Yellow Labs and other breeds. The inherent risk is that these breeders lack of experience and proper knowledge could translate into poor living conditions for the dogs. The dogs health is not properly monitored and they receive little household training or none at all. Any dog that spends even the first few weeks of its life in utter misery will be difficult to condition into becoming a well-behaved household pet. You may even run the risk of buying what you have been led to believe is a Yellow Lab but is actually a dog of mixed breed because such puppy mills do not prevent the different breeds within from interacting more freely than they should.

Should you have any trouble deciding on which Yellow Lab breeders to contact to get a pooch of your own, you cant go wrong with those that have been recognized by the American Kennel Club. Any breeder officially recognized by the AKC is sure to provide only healthy purebred puppies so that families can enjoy the gentle companionship of a Yellow Lab without worrying about possible physical or behavioral defects manifesting themselves later on as their dog matures into adulthood. It is also advisable to read the testimonials from dog owners to know which breeders are the ones worth checking out. More than anything else, these testimonials paint an accurate picture of the performance of breeders in providing healthy purebreds.
