subject: Prevalent Causes Of Yeast Infection And Its Symptoms [print this page]

Candida albicans can result to various diseases. This may range from mild subcutaneous infections and to serious infections within the esophagus, throat, intestines and the heart. One of the primary causes of yeast infection is the regular use of antibiotics, which destroys the bodys microorganisms, thus resulting to yeast or Candida overgrowth. Most of the time, the condition may exist for no reason at all and this case calls for thorough diagnosis.

Candida or yeast infection is named according to where the infection occurs. For example, in case the condition occurs in or around the oral cavity or the mouth, this is referred to as oral thrush or oral candidiasis. If the infection occurs within the area of the vagina, this is known as vaginal yeast infection or vaginitis. This type of infection may result to the development of scaly skin rash as well as onychomycosis in nails. This type of fungus can also survive on the bloodstream and affect the vital organs inside the body.

The symptoms of the infection also differ according to its location. Some of the common symptoms include the following:

* Yeast infection on the skin is characterized by redness, inflammation and the presence of rough and scaly skin.

* Vaginitis can result to itching and inflammation of the vaginal wall. This is also accompanied by the presence of white or yellow discharges.

* Onchymycosis or yeast infection on the nails can result to having painful, redden and smelly finger or toenails. Pus formation may also exist in and around the affected nails.

* Penile yeast infection or balanitis often results to inflammation of the penis.

* Yeast overgrowth inside the kidney may result to the presence of blood in the urine.

* In case the infection reaches the heart, this can cause severe damage to the heart tissues and valves.

* Infection by yeast within the lungs, on the other hand, results to the presence of blood in the sputum.

* If yeast infection reached the eyes, this may result to blurred and painful vision.

Yeast infection can also reach the brain and some of the common symptoms of yeast infection in the brain are the presence of brain tumors and seizures. The patient may also suffer from confusion, mood changes, memory loss and other behavioral changes.

The diagnosis of yeast infection is usually based on the symptoms presented, along with physical examination and the medical history of the affected individual. If it is necessary, laboratory testing may be required as well, such as blood test, biopsy and culturing of the wound or blood. After thorough diagnosis is conducted and presence of yeast infection is determined, the physician may recommend certain treatment options for curing the condition.

Depending on the area as well as the type of infection, the physician may require the use of antifungal topical ointments or creams, intravenous injections or antifungal oral medications. For a more effective treatment, the affected individual might be required to follow Candida cleanse therapy. The patients diet should not include sugar as well, because this can enhance the growth of Candida albicans. If sugar is avoided, multiplication of yeast is avoided as well.

To prevent the infection, following proper hygiene is necessary. One treatment for yeast infection on the skin is to make sure that it is kept dry and clean at all times. Individuals suffering from skin disorder are more prone to developing Candida albicans or yeast infection. In case the symptoms of the condition are severe, it is only imperative to consult a physician immediately for immediate treatment and in order to prevent any further complications due to the condition.
