subject: Tips For Teachers [print this page] Teaching is a profession which is entrusted with not only professional responsibilities but also social responsibilities. A very big responsibility of designing a better tomorrow rests on the shoulders of a teacher. Hence, teaching is considered as the most noble profession of the world. However, a person doesnt and cant become a teacher in a day or two. It is a title achieved through rigorous practice and years of experience. These days there are so many universities and colleges providing teachers training, transforming students into teachers. These budding teachers must realize their responsibility in order to lay a strong foundation for a bright future. Through this article, such teachers would get to know about certain Dos and Donts that they must practice in order to work efficiently in their field.
Be energetic: The essential prerequisite to be a good teacher is to be energetic throughout the day. Whether you teach students of 1st grade or students involved in further education training, you must be very energetic. Your students will be as attentive as the amount of zeal they see in you. The more energetic you are; the more will be their attentiveness in the class. If you are low on energy in your class, I seriously doubt even if a single student would listen to you
Make your sessions interactive: Never make your session a monotonous lecture. Try to make it as interactive and participatory as possible. Let the students do brainstorming. Ask them questions, let them guess, let them think, let them answer, let them debate over it. This way, their intellectual abilities would grow. At the end of the class ask students to ask you doubts if they have any. Respond to them as quickly as possible. You might be humorous too, just to freshen up the students.
Be Prepared: Just like the students you also need to do your home work. Always be prepared for your next class. You must do home study in order to prepare yourself for next class. Make notes, go through the syllabus, revise everything and think how to make your session more interactive and interesting. See through the eyes of a student and guess all the possible questions a student may ask and be prepared with its solution.
Be friendly with students: Be very frank with your students. They must rely on you and bank upon you in order to come across the hurdles in their academics. They shouldnt hesitate in asking in question or doubt to you, however stupid or lame it might be. However, being frank doesnt mean being casual. Never ever cross the line of discipline and professionalism.
Assess yourself: It is very important if you want to overcome your downfalls. If you think that you are unable to give your best in your profession as a teacher, its time to assess yourself. Seek response from your students. They might hesitate in telling you your pitfalls. In such a case ask everybody to write their responses on a sheet of paper, anonymously.
The true reward for a teacher is neither the hike in income nor elevation in designation; it is his/her students acknowledgment of himself as a Good Teacher. When students start relying on a teacher and bank upon him/her, that gesture of students gives a sense of achievement to a teacher. If you follow the above mentioned tips, you will certainly be a popular teacher among your students and will soon be rewarded as a good teacher.
