subject: 9 Spices To Boost Your Health [print this page]

Just because something tastes good, doesn't mean there's salt in it. There are tons of healthy ways to season and flavor your food, without decreasing its health points. In fact, if you use simple, un-changed spices, you can often reap tons of health benefits. Eating tasty food never felt so good (and left so little bloat!)

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has been proven to work wonders for those afflicted with type two diabetes, lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Adding just to teaspoons every day, perhaps to your baked goods or oatmeal, will get you the benefits.

Turmeric

This is a spice many people don't think they're familiar with but if you've eaten Indian food, you've most likely eaten this. Adding a dash to your rice can help inhibit the growth of cancer cells because of its curcumin.

Rosemary

Not only does sniffing it make your heart flutter, but adding it to your food is good for your heart. Rosemary has been shown to lower one's chances of heart attack and other heart complications. Try smothering chicken or turkey with it before baking.

Garlic

On those nights you don't have a hot date, stink up your breath with some garlic. Research has indicated it might help kill developing cancer cells. Pump up your benefits by having it in a pasta dish with red chili flakes, another spice with benefits.

Paprika

Add it to rice dishes or even put some in a ziplock bag to bring to the movies and add it to popcorn. Paprika is an anti-inflammatory and has antioxidants that can reduce one's risk of cancer.

Cayenne pepper

Another anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, but possibly more popular for its fat burning qualities. Add it to salad dressings or soups. It provides you with that great sweat as if you'd just exercised.

Ginger

Eat it with sushi, saute it and had to a stiry fry, or even try a ginger tea. Ginger has strong healing properties. It can fend off nausea, motion sickness and pain associated with arthritis. Another easy way to eat it is candied! My friend is a voice coach and would give these to her students after lessons and they loved them! Not only did they learn how to sing, but they improved their health!

Oregano

Out of 27 herbs that we can consume fresh cut, oregano has been singled out by the FDA as the one with the highest antioxidant count. Toss it into guacamole for added spice!

Red Chili Peppers

Sprinkle these on pizza or garlic bread. Along with their wonderful fat-burning properties (helping you feel less bad about all that cheese) they possess antioxidants.
