subject: To Pack Your Boxes For Your Move [print this page]

In case you decide not to use professional movers or packers and prepares to pack your home, here is a guide on when you should pack your household items. These tips below are very important in helping you to decide easily and allow everything into places.

WHAT TO PACK 4 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE

Go ahead and pack items that you are not using on a regular basis to reduce your worries. Your crawl spaces, attics, basement storage, certain garage items are good to pack at this point. In addition, set up a staging area for packed boxes and containers like on a main level (formal dining room or seldom-used front room) or in the garage area.

You may also consider packing most of the out of season items (holiday or clothing) decorative items, artwork, and a formal dining room filled with china, curio cabinets with fragile or any non-essential day-to-day items to prepare you anytime you move. If you have a front room that you use very often, (after its packed) this definitely works well as a staging area. The garage and or shed are also good to finish off 3 weeks preparation before the move.

WHAT TO PACK 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE

This is the week to finish off everything that is not very critical day-to-day; 90 percent of kitchen, home office, most of your kids toys, clothing, and everything else that you do not have to have available. These items can consume much of your time once you start packing so you have to prepare in advance.

WHAT TO PACK THE WEEK BEFORE YOU MOVE

Furthermore, pack the rest of your clothing leaving only what you will need for the last few days of stay. Finish the kitchen or cooking area and use paper plates or eat out the last few days before you leave. Electronics and most TVs should be taken down, leave one if need be for viewing. All packing should be complete within a few days of your move except for some clothing and a box or two of what we call keep with you items.

WHAT TO PACK THE DAY BEFORE YOUR MOVE

Checkbooks, IDs, next day or 2 clothing, keys to new home, TV (and or other remotes), medication, personal grooming items, a laptop, and anything else that you cannot be without. These items will go with you in your vehicle once you start moving out.

Now there are deviations from this list depending on your move and what type of stuff you have but this is a good general guide to follow if you want to know when to pack before your move. Remember that it is best to move if you have a better plan and the exact guidelines to prevent disappointments.
