subject: Internet Marketing Failure Vs. Offline Failure And Success [print this page] Businesses are going to fail both on the Internet and in the offline world. I think many times people think it is easier to make money online than it would be with a brick and mortar business.
Sometimes failure is not even the fault of the business itself. In other instances the business owner is to blame. Let me give you a couple of examples.
1. Changing business models. It's hard to believe but Best Buy may go out of business in the next year or two.
If they do they can thank the Internet first of all, and then blame themselves secondly. They have not done a good job of adapting to the way people purchase things in today's marketplace.
In the past Best Buy would promote something on sale and then expect to upsell the customer when they got to the store. They also knew that a customer would purchase a couple more items on their visit, so the average ticket would go up.
Now people are very specific about what you going to purchase and they use the Internet to research before they purchase. Many times they don't even go to Best Buy, but rather pick up on sale at an online retail site such as Amazon.com.
2. Lack of focus. Many people doing Internet marketing really never get focused on one particular way to make money.
They tend to jump around a lot trying new things and never seeing something through. Unless you luck out you're not going to make a lot of money quickly online.
Even if you have an advertising budget it takes a while to develop a system for promoting any certain specific product. Many people will quit before they ever give what they're doing a chance to succeed.
I have certainly had my share of Internet marketing failure. What I've always tried to do is learn from those failures and eliminate what I can.
I suggest that you apply what you've learned from your failures to help you become more successful. Whether it's Internet marketing traffic, choosing products to promote, or building a moneymaking website, there's plenty to learn and plenty of opportunities to fail.
If you stick with it long enough eventually you're going to succeed. This does take work on your part and it does take putting together a plan for success.
It also takes focus on one way to make money before you branch into another income stream. If you will approach it this way eventually you will eliminate your Internet marketing failure and begin to have more successes. That's when Internet marketing really starts to be a lot of fun!
