The IBM System x computer systems type a sub-brand of International Business Machines (IBM) Program product hosts (the other Program sub-brands having the brands IBM System i, IBM System p, IBM System z and IBM System Storage). Moreover IBM System x is the primary part of the IBM System Group 1350 Solution.

Starting out as IBM PC server, renamed Netfinity, then eServer xSeries and now System x, these servers are recognized by being according to off-the-shelf x86 CPUs; IBM roles them as their "low end" or "entry" providing.

Previously IBM servers according to AMD Opteron CPUs did not use the xSeries brand; instead they dropped immediately under the eServer offset umbrella. However, present AMD Opteron-based servers fall under the System x product.

Certification Exams

Test 000-087: IBM System x Technical Expert V6

The System x Technical Expert will have extensive experience with the System x product family and hands on experience with complex customer environments, buying behavior, and solutions. The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge of configuration, planning, implementing and support of the System x product family and ancillary equipment and software. A minimum of 18 months is recommended.

This test replaces all previous versions of the System x Technical Expert including BladeCenter and High Performance Servers, which have been withdrawn or will be withdrawn shortly. All serious candidates should prepare for test 000-087.

It is suggested that no substance what the experience level, all candidates should assess their skills by interpretation carefully through the objectives of the test (see the "Objectives" Tab), assess any learning gaps, and use the training property provided (See the Training Resources Tab) to appropriately get ready.

Test 000-151: IBM System x Sales Expert V3

The System x Sales Expert will have wide-ranging understanding with the System x product family and hands on understanding with complex customer environments, buying behavior and solutions. A minimum of 18 months is recommended.

This test put backs all previous versions of the System x Sales Expert which have been withdrawn or will be withdrawn shortly. All serious applicants should prepare for test 151.

It is suggested that no matter what the knowledge level, all applicants should assess their skills by reading carefully through the objectives of the test, assess any learning gaps and use the training resources provided to properly prepare.

Test 000-152: System x Technical Principles V10

This test substitutes all previous System x technical support fundamentals and will be upgrade as new products and functions are delivered. This test will authenticate the skills of the customer facing System x technical support professional. A minimum of 6 months successful support experience is expected. The successful applicant will have the operational understanding of the System x and x86 server product family including eX5 and typically encountered installed IBM and competitive products, The successful applicant must have the practical familiarity with storage and networking options.

Test 000-153: System x Sales Specialist V6

This test will authenticate the skills of the customer facing System x sales professional. A minimum of 6 months successful sales experience is expected. The successful applicant will the have operational understanding of the System x and x86 server product family including eX5 and typically encountered installed IBM and competitive products, The successful applicant must have the practical knowledge of storage and networking options.
