subject: Succeed As An Online Marketer By Having A Contentious Opinion Now And Again [print this page]

Many of us wherever possible avoid confrontation. We would go for a less combative route and opt for an easy life.

And of course, there is nothing wrong with that.

However, if you want to succeed in your internet business, you should be ready to air your opinions on a couple of the more interesting and controversial issues you come across. Tell your readers exactly what you think about a range of things, no matter how controversial they might be.

Why?...

Well, always bear in mind that people buy from people they like. Every online marketing coach will tell you that.

If you want to be successful in your internet business, you will have to make that individual connection with your readers and one of the best ways to do that is to share the same views and opinions as they have.

If you end up on the same wavelength as they are and adopt the same stance on many of the more contentious topics in your market, your customers will start to accept you as "one of them" and relate to you rather more closely.

In fact, they will often begin to take in your every article, to the point that if you vouch for a product or a service, they will usually do what you are recommending -- purchase it, in other words.

Now, I am not implying that you overstep the mark here. Your views have to be properly structured and well thought about if they are to be successful. Simply share your personal opinion on a particular subject that is sufficiently strongly worded to guarantee your buyers want to read it, without turning them all away in the process.

Of course, the stronger your views, the more your visitors will begin to agree or disagree with you. You will invariably lose some readers who adopt a different stance to yours, but you will acquire a loyal and faithful following too. The type of people who will want to buy from you again and again because you are "one of them".

The overriding factor to remember is that your opinion is just that -- your opinion. It is not cast in stone, it is never going to become the law, it is only your own view on a particular issue. And you are as qualified to voice that opinion as everybody else of course.

If you share these opinions through a blog, you will quickly find that your readers will start to leave feedback with their own opinions on the topic. This will occasionally start a lively debate which will keep luring your customers back to see how the debate is evolving.

And that is fantastic news. It demonstrates that your views are being read and your online business traffic is growing as people use links back to your site and social media in an effort to share the discussion with other people.

That is far less likely to happen if you decide on a more neutral, middle of the road view.
