subject: What Are The Benefits Of Joining Sky Television? [print this page]

Television is a source of great entertainment to people all over the world. It is rapidly becoming one of the premier art forms of today, with some of the cream of acting, writing and directing talent being drawn to it, like moths to a flame (or agents to a 50% cut of their client's profits).

The television market in the United Kingdom has been dominated by Sky for over twenty years, and this is largely because of the extensive programme choices it has managed to compile by flexing its wallet at other companies like the BBC and Channel 4, which simply can't compete. It has had exclusive broadcasting rights for Premier League football since the Premier League started in 1992, and has expanded its sports repertoire to include cricket (with the World Cup and the always highly-anticipated Ashes between England and Australia), motor racing (as of 2012, it has had broadcasting rights for every Formula One race) and golf (the Ryder Cup and US Open among other major championships).

In addition, its Sky Movies channels show all of the latest releases and established classics in a constantly-changing roster of films from all genres, including horror, modern greats and family movies. However, the jewels in its crown are the American programmes, some of which are considered among the best ever or currently being made, which it has used its budget to filch from other broadcasters that might have had them first. These include The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and Seinfeld, with original programming from the company such as transsexual hitman/woman thriller Hit & Miss currently being produced.

If you're any sort of television fan, therefore, it makes sense to opt for the company's television services. The channel packs that it uses make it easier for you to filter out the channels that you know you're never going to watch for instance, if you loathe sport, you don't have to buy the Sports Channel Pack.

If you sign up to the service you will also receive one of the company's digital boxes, with which you can pause and rewind live programmes, meaning that you can get up to do other things while the programme is on if you have to, rather than having to miss some of it. Those who have a high-definition television can get a Sky+HD box, which may come free you don't necessarily have to buy Sky+HD box though depending on the deal you've gone for.
