subject: Samsung Series 7 Chronos (17-inches) Review [print this page]

Samsung has proved its rivals by launching 17-inch Samsung Series 7 that desktop replacement still has the place. On the contrary Apple has decided not to launch 17-inch MacBook Pro. Slim and lightweight design of the Samsung Series S is very captivating with minimized aluminum chassis and huge processing power. Its following review will help you out to understand its discriminating features.

17-inch Samsung Series 7 Chronos design is somewhat similar to its 15-inch cousin having nicely brushed metal finish on all its sides that has the ability to abstain from fingerprints. The keyboard lies in a slight impression and there is a speaker lies along the length of the system.Weighing just 6.3 pounds, the Series 7 Chronos is extremely light in weight. It is heavy if we compare it with 15-inch Mac Book Pro with Retina display but lightweight when compared with HP Envy 17.Its equipped with full sized keyboard having adjustable back-lighting. It has the accuracy of typing but as compared to 15-inch Series 7 Chronos its not very comfortable to type for a long time a long time Its 4.2 x 3-inch ELAN clickpad perform very well.

Having the resolution of 1920 x 1080-pixel and 17.3-inch LED Full HD display entertains you with electrifying image results. But the Chronos cant come up with the Mac Book Pros resolution and extensive viewing angle. Fine details can easily be recognized while streaming YouTube videos. It offers really good graphics for playing games.

Due to the JBL speakers Samsung Series 7 Chronos delivers loud sound at maximum volume. Despite its sub-woofer lacks oomph , its treble never becomes too low as in Dells previous XPS series.

It has an array of ports a Kensington Lock Slot, AC, Gigabyte Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports, mini Display Port and headphone/microphone jack on the left side, two USB 2.0 ports on the right; and a 4-in-1 card reader on the front. It has a 1.3 HD webcam that capture dynamic images despite the ambient light makes the colors washed out slightly but video appeared slightly pixelated.

The 17-inch Series 7 Chronos housed plenty of processing power in its 0.98-inch thick chassis and a third-generation 2.3-GHz quad-core Intel Core i7-3615QM processor, 8GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics and a 1TB hard drive are embedded inside. Chronos boots comparatively quick due to 8GB SSD cache, it loads Windows 7 in 44 seconds approximately 14 seconds faster than the average.

It offers somewhat better graphics performance due to Nvidia GeForce GT 650M GPU with 2GB of VRAM. Its frame rate is 157 and 78 frames per second that is considerably better than MacBook pro. It also offers acceptable frame rates for playing games like Batman: Arkham City at full HD resolution.

Its battery has indispensably long life and it lasts for 6 hours and 12 minutes approx 3 hours more than the average note-book. Most os the Samsung products come with the preinstalled softwares including Easy File Share, Easy Migration, Kies, Samsungs own media player; and Easy Software Manager. Samsung also offers a one year warranty on its products.

Priced at $1,499 Samsung Series 7 Chronos has a great appearance and sounds good. The quad-core processor combined with Nvidias 650M graphics makes it powerful enough but one drawback is that its hard drive is slow. However, Samsungs lighter and thinner design and brighter display make it an excellent choice for multimedia experts.
