subject: Five Things To Keep In Your Fridge To Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle [print this page]

If you are part of a family with children it is incredibly hard to keep on top of what you have to eat in the kitchen. Cupboard and freezer space is limited and the chances of you fitting everything in the fridge after the weekly shop are next to none.

The importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for you and your children can never be underestimated, so in a bid to ease the process, here is a list of five things that should remain in your fridge at all times:

1.One, if not both of the draws at the bottom of the fridge should remain packed full of vegetables at all times. Both root vegetables to go with your roast dinners or in your sauces and salad ingredients, including lettuce, tomato and cucumber. If you ensure that salad is eaten for lunch and at least two vegetables are used at dinner time you will be laughing your way to a healthy body.

2.Probiotic yoghurts are the perfect accompaniment to a healthy diet. Advertisers try and confuse you with their jargon on adverts for these types of products, but dont let that put you off. They all do pretty much the same thing; it is just down to you to pick which one you like the taste of the most.

3.There should always be a selection of fruit juices in the fridge. Ensure that these are not from concentrate and one glass a day can really kick start you in your search for your five-a-day. This is especially important for children as a large majority of them will not enjoy eating fruit but will love a glass of fruit juice.

4.Mayonnaise is something that is seen by most as an incredibly unhealthy and fattening condiment, however if you opt for the low fat varieties the damage is very small and it will go a long way to persuading your children to eat their vegetables, the most important ingredient in a healthy diet.

5.Of all the meats that you could choose and store in your fridge, there really is only one winner when it comes to being healthy. Fresh fish has always got to be the meat of choice, not only is it full of vitamins and incredibly good for the body it also has the ability to stimulate the mind. Scientific tests have been conducted on the effects of eating fresh fish and it is widely considered that if eaten regularly it can help reduce the risks of heart disease, Alzheimers, cancer, depression and arthritis.
