subject: Android Game Development And Apps Picking Up Steam [print this page]

The Android platform has really taken off in terms of game and mobile application sales over the past year. Where once the iPhone was the dominant smart phone, companies are wising up to releasing Android versions of their apps to reach a wider audience and further increase revenue. Android phones in general are becoming more popular with the public, as they often are more affordable and are available on more providers. Over a half million Androids are activated every day, so to consider the Android game development market is important for many companies.

Take, for example, the release of Instagram for Android. Instagram used to be an iPhone exclusive application but with it now being available for Android as well, it has seen a significant increase in not only members, but actual usage. Many developers of big games are developing Android versions faster as well. Whereas it may have been months to even a year before a iPhone game was available on Android, it now is taking just several weeks because they know how important it is to get their application out as soon as possible.

Android game development has really taken on new heights and is making the money to prove it. Over the past year, sales of Android games have skyrocketed. A good reason for the most recent growth is that Android Market has changed over to Google Play. There's now a more expansive market than ever before, encompassing far more apps and development companies than the original market started out with.

With the latest update to Gingerbread, the Android operating system is competing more and more with the iPhone OS, as it is getting faster and more efficient. It's keeping up with Apple in every respect and more people are latching on because of the newer, better version.

If you've been thinking about getting into development, or hiring application development services to create something for your company, it may be smart to jump on the Android bandwagon. Don't limit yourself to just iPhone apps, find a way to cover both markets. Even if it means releasing one version some time later than another, it will still garner you more revenue. Especially since cheaper Androids are making it possible to put smart phones in the hands of many people, not just a privileged few as it was years ago. You might be able to break through in a new way.
