Some of the most popular types of freight truck shipping are LTL, refrigerated, heavy haul, tanker trucks and flatbeds.

LTL

LTL stands for less than load or partial load and are used to transport lighter loads of freight, usually under 12,000 pounds depending on the size of the items. This is the most cost effective way to ship, as smaller trucks are used, thus saving on price.

Refrigerated

As its name suggests, refrigerated trucks, or reefers, are used for items that require cold storage.

This includes everything from meat and produce to plants, medical supplies and yes, even fish.

Heavy Haul

Heavy haul trucks are used for only the weightiest loads on the road. This includes everything from cars and boats to construction, farming and military equipment. Heavy haul trucks can also be refrigerated trucks.

Tanker

Tanker trucks, as their name suggests, contain massive tanks used to haul oil, chemicals, solvents, natural gas and other types of liquids. Sometimes they also haul solid materials.

Tankers can be refrigerated, pressurized and are fitted with special material on the inside to prevent the materials being hauled from rusting, corroding, or otherwise becoming damaged.

Flatbed

Flatbed trucks are exactly that: flat. They are primarily used to haul large items such as bales of hay and wheat, lumber and large pieces of construction equipment.

Freight hauling provides the perfect means to transport cargo across the country. Knowing the types of trucks out there will enable you to better determine how to ship the items you have from point A to point B.
