Officially known as the Republic of Singapore, Singapore is a Southeast Asian city-state located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is a highly urbanized island country made up of 63 islands. It is popular for its thriving nightlife, myriad of activities and green scenery.

Although Singapore is popular with tourists throughout the year, the best time to visit it is in the festive seasons. Although Singapore doesn't have particular climatic seasons, in terms of tourism it has different peaks. For instance, January sees the festivities of the Chinese New Year. During this time, the Chinese usually greet the tourists with oranges and bouquets. There are street parades popularly known as Chingay. The next peak season of the country comes in November, when the Indians are celebrating Deepawali with lights, music and cultural programs. Spring is a good time to visit if you want cheap airfares to Singapore. If you are a fan of art and culture, the best time for you to visit is in June, on account of the famous Art Festival.

Flights to Singapore usually land at the Johor Bahru Airport. Lufthansa is one of the airlines offering cheap plane tickets. March is usually the month which offers huge airline discounts. Other cheap flights to Singapore include Emirates and Saudi Arabia Airlines.

Unlike other countries, languages, cultures and religions in Singapore are not delineated according to ancestry or skin color. The most widely practiced religion in the country is Buddhism. Following this is Christianity, non-religious, Islam, Taoism and Hinduism. However, in the past decade, proportions of population following Buddhism have decreased, while those of Christianity have increased. The country has Dharma centers and monasteries from all three major Buddhist traditions: Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana. Tibetan Buddhism has also been slowly making its way into the country's religious scene.

The culture of this country can mainly be described as the combination of Chinese, Malay, British and Indian cultures. This immigrant history is clearly reflected in its diverse cuisine. For instance, in Singapore's hawker centers you may find traditionally Malay hawker stalls serving halal versions of traditionally Tamil food. Chinese stalls may combine Malay ingredients, cooking techniques or entire dishes with their culinary methods. Unquestionably, food in this country is a significantly rich and cultural attraction. You can also enjoy a diverse range of seafood, like clams, squid, crabs and oysters, in the area. Stingray barbecued and served on banana leaf and with sambal is among the popular delicacies.

Singapore has a variety of major festivals that reflect its racial diversity. Some of these are Chinese New Year, Muslim Eid ul-Fitr, Buddhist Vesak Day and Hindu Diwali. Christian festivals such as Christmas Day, Good Friday and New Year's Day are also gaining popularity.
