subject: Put Your Home In Spotlight This Year [print this page]

Artsy types, tasteful decorators, or simply those with many fine possessions hoping to improve their ceiling lighting should consider installing a set of spotlights somewhere in their home. Spotlights were originally used to cast pools of light onto the stage, but they are no longer just for the theatre: for the past few decades designers have started to use the pieces to decorate basic homes.

Primarily, this type of illumination is used to highlight special artistic or design elements in a room. Just as curators in museums or artists at galleries shine light on their prized pieces and possessions, so can you with a carefully placed spotlight. Illuminate for all your guests that fabulous portrait your loved one painted for you, a fabulous furniture piece youve always longed to accent, or the specialty souvenirs youve purchased on your travels. Its possible with these pieces!

Dont feel youll be put on the spot, though. Most tracks of spotlights can be twisted, turned or rotated once installed. A special feature of these pieces is that theyre very flexible. To create a soft look, try positioning the lights such that their beams bounce off walls or certain parts of the ceiling so they wont get in direct contact with your eyes. Diversity can also be added by purchasing tracts in different styles. Some hang close to the ceiling, while others are based on trapeze lighting which allows just about anyone to move their pieces in just about as many different was as you see fit.

Long ago, stage managers used powerful candles to illuminate these lights, but this modern form of ceiling lighting can be powered by LED, fluorescent, and halogen. Because many spotlight sets come with several globes on the same rack, you might want to consider buying one or two coloured globes to give an interesting spin to a normal room. The benefit of such decoration is that with one fixture, you can make many, many effects.

Finally, try to install a set somewhere in your home where there is a dimmer. This will allow for a greater degree of flexibility than with a conventionally dimmed light. Setting the mood is easy when you add spotlights to your ceiling lighting, especially since when used alone, they can cast dramatic shadows across a sparsely lit room, yet when used as supplements, can add a subtle hint of importance to anything special in the home.
