A swimming pool is the most important element of a luxurious outdoor environment. Swimming pools can be differentiated into different types on the basis of their usage. They can be classified as natural swimming pools, ocean pools, public pools, competition pools, private pools, infinity pools, exercise pools, spas and hot tubs.

Natural Swimming Pools

These pools duplicates the environment of the natural swimmable lakes which are healthy, non-polluted and ecologically-balanced bodies of water. The NSPs in its water is 100 percent free from chemicals and therefore, very desirable for swimming. The water is disinfected with the use of biological filters and plants rooted in the system. These pools are perfect for eco friendly nature lovers.

Ocean Pools

Ocean pools have become popular mainly during the early 20th century especially in Australia. In Australia, these pools are created by surrounding a section of the rock shelf where water circulates through the pools or by constant flooding over the side of the pool during high tide. We see that the magic of open water and the feeling of the clean cool fresh air can soothe even the most frazzled minds.

Public Pools

Public swimming pools are mostly found as a section of a recreational center or a bigger leisure complex. All these centers normally have more than one pool which caters to the different swimming requirements of guests. There may also be options for a hot tub or a sauna and spa pool. Resorts and Hotels have these public pools as a part of their recreational facilities for its guests. Some of these have the option of a natatorium - a pool in a separate building, which has the facilities required for related activities. This is a delightful place to spend time where people of all ages can enjoy time together playing. Outdoor pools are very common in tropical areas. There are also other large pools with a diving board at one end above the water but these pools are deep enough so that divers will not be injured.

Competition Pools

These pools are mostly found indoors and heated constantly to permit usage at anytime of the year and to fulfill with the regulations regarding light, equipment and temperature. The standards for competition pools set by The International Swimming Federation or the Federation Internationale de la Natation (FINA) is that Pools should be 25 meters (~ 82 feet) or 50 m (~ 164 feet).

Private Pools

The main types of the inground pools are concrete, fiber glass and vinyl liner. Since private pools are specially used by a few people they are usually smaller than public pools. Home or residential pools are many at times built in or assembled above the ground.

Infinity Pools

An infinity pool is also called the negative edge or the vanishing edge pool. It creates a visual effect of water that extends to the horizon, vanishing to infinity. We can see that the illusion works well if there is a change in elevation. So, if you are a dreamer or a person who loves to admire the ubiquitous striking effects of nature then this is the one for you.

Exercise Pools

Exercise pools are also known as swim spas, swim systems or swimming machines, swim systems or swim spas and all these are examples of various types of resistance swimming. These pools are ideal for athletes or those who wish to achieve their fitness goals.

Spas and Hot Tubs

These are generally found in health clubs, fitness centers or the swimming pool area. These pools are heated and used for therapy and relaxation.
