subject: Baby Gender Test - Are You Aware Of This Latest Technology? [print this page]

If you do not know how early the test for predicting the gender of the baby can be done, then you will be surprised to know that this test can be done as early as 5 weeks after conceiving. The technology I am going to talk about is new and quite reliable. It is waiting for patent approval. Even a small sample of the blood of the mother can help predict the gender of the baby. It is that sensitive.

This technology has been tested for many years now and is dependably accurate. We went for the test last year when my wife got pregnant. It was quite easy to understand and perform. The result takes about twenty four to forty eight hours to come but in our case it came within a day and we were very happy to know the result since we wanted a girl child and the result revealed that my wife had conceived a baby girl.

It was a pleasant experience for us when our daughter was born as we had prepared everything according to the gender of the baby.

The principle guiding the test is not complicated to understand. It is a well proven fact that after conception, some tiny quantity of fetal chromosomal DNA is released into the blood stream of the mother. By testing this DNA we can find out the gender of the baby. As you may know that the XY pattern of chromosomal set in the fertilized egg of the mother leads to the formation of a baby boy and XX pattern of chromosomes in the fertilized egg makes a female child.

During the early part of the formation of the fetus, some fragments of the chromosomal DNA may reach the blood of the mother and a few drops of the maternal blood, when tested in the lab, can predict whether the conceived child is a male or a female.

This test is a bit expensive because it is performed in a lab and is not a home test. Detecting DNA in the lab is a complicated process and needs costly equipments. That is what makes it expensive and that is why this test is sensitive and reliable.

There are some ethical issues associated with this test though, especially for the countries where prenatal determination of the gender of the unborn baby is considered to be unethical and is illegal. The purpose of the information given above is to give you an idea of what science can achieve and how easy it is to do a baby gender test.
