subject: What You Need To Know When Selecting Eyeglasses [print this page]

When shopping for the perfect eyeglass frames there are a few things to keep in mind - aside from just how you look when wearing them! While there are a lot of cool designers with some great looking glasses out there, just how those glasses look on the rack really isn't the only consideration for us. We also have to think about our own face shapes, eye and hair color and basic skin tones if we want to find a frame that matches us - and our lifestyles - perfectly. You may find, if you ignore these points when you're shopping, that you'll end up with a pair of glasses that frankly just don't suit.

Face Shape Considerations

When selecting your frames for your glasses, face shape may play a far more important role than you might imagine. Just as you would want to play up, or show off other parts of your body that you're particularly proud of, the same goes for your face. The frames that you chose need to complement your face shape, not work against it or exaggerate aspects that might be unflattering. For example, if you happen to have a rounder face, with full cheeks, the best sort of frame shape for you are a more narrow style, perhaps with a clear bridge. This will help downplay the roundness of your features. Just as someone with an elongated or oval-shaped face will want a rounder frame that will help give the illusion of a fuller face.

Color is Key

When consideration is made to frame color, one has to consider their own colors - hair, eyes and skin tones - in order to get a frame that will be complementary to them. The majority of eyeglass wearers - approximately sixty percent - have a cool skin tone. As such, the majority of frames produced are made to complement those types of wearers. If you have a warmer tone you will need to look for a set of frames that better complements you.

Eyes should also be considered when selecting eyeglasses. Brown eyes or warmer tones should be paired with warmer-toned glasses, while cool eyes (such as green and blue) should be paired with cool-colored frames.

Your hair color, such as blonde or brunette, should also be a factor when selecting your eyeglasses. Look for frames that are warm for deep, rich colors and look for frames that are cooler in tone for lighter blondes and reds.

Try Them On

The only solid way to tell if a particular color or shape of frame will work well with your particular features and coloring is to try them on. Even if you follow the steps above, you should still try on a few pairs of glasses before settling on one style. Check with the shop to see if they offer a money back guarantee which will allow you to wear the glasses for a while to see if they really do go with who you are and to see if you truly enjoy wearing them.
