subject: How To Be Your Own Valentine During A Breakup [print this page] Valentine's Day is one of the most romantic days of the yearbut you're dreading it, right? Does the idea of spending Valentine's Day alone bum you out? You're too fabulous for that! Take charge and be your own Valentine!
With all the red hearts, jewelry and rose bouquets in nearly every store window, this time of year is enough to sink any single gal into the spiral of despair. It serves as a reminder that ~ yep ~ you're alone ~ Valentineless, if you will.
Butwhat if you were your OWN Valentine this year? What if you gave yourself ~ surprise ~ exactly what you wanted? What if you were the best Valentine you've ever had?
I've put together a few tips for you based on a workshop I'm leading on Saturday with the same name "How To Be Your Own Valentine."
1. Do/buy something really special for you that is totally out of the ordinary. For instance, I saved for a while so that I could order myself a little something from Tiffany & Co. I sent it to me with a cute little card attached. I did it for three years in a row. It was important on more than one level. It was me doing something different and special for ME! I ask you to treat yourself to something different and special on Valentine's Day. It doesn't have to be expensive. It can be a stop at the coffee shop for a frou-frou cup of coffee. It could be a manicure. It could be a nice, relaxing walk. Make sure it's outside your normal routine and that it makes you feel REALLY good inside.
2. Schedule your day ahead of time and make sure it's fabulous. I mean it. Make an agenda for the day. Put in your obligations (work, appointments, etc.) first. Then add in some FUN! Add in that trip to the coffee shop. Are you going to have lunch with some friends? Are you preparing a recipe you've been meaning to try for dinner? If you don't have your day planned out, it's easy to get bogged down with other "stuff." If you follow your kick-butt schedule, at the end of the day, I bet you'll feel great!
3. Make yourself a Valentine's Day card. I know. I know. You're thinking ~ "What? Am I in 2nd grade? I'm going to make myself a Valentine's Day card? Really?" If you want to be a good Valentine ~ yes ~ you will make yourself a card. It doesn't have to be fancybut it can be. It can be a lot of fun to create a card with your "inner child." This is a chance to shamelessly plug yourself! Go ahead! Brag about your best qualities! Bring on the compliments! When you're finished, put it in an envelope and put it somewhere so you'll notice it first thing on Valentine's Day morning.
